I’ve been saying almost since I met Ern that I’d like some chickens of my own. Right now, we get our eggs from Ernie’s aunt Suzie. I’ve always wanted my own, just never had the facilities to keep them. Well, just before Easter, Reuben (Ernie’s dad) went up to Southern States to get some minerals. He came home, and told me he had a surprise for me in the truck. I go out to look, and low and behold, there’s a box of 15 chicks. I cleaned out an old water tub, and got them set up in the shop. They’ve grown like weeds ever since. Barely a month later, they have all their feathers in, and look like full grown chickens almost, albeit very small ones yet. Ernie’s helping me fix up the old hog house, and turn it into a chicken house. We’re not done yet, but need to finish up soon – the chickens are starting to fly out of their tub and run around the shop! Sadly I didn’t think to get before/after pictures of the hog house, but the difference will be dramatic. I’ll get and post pictures of the chicken house when it’s done.
